Founder of The Conflict Authority
Leo ’s formal training in conflict resolution began at the age of 18 in the United States Army where he was taught that conflict is resolved through direct confrontation and violence. After leaving the Army, he quickly learned that the destruction of your enemy, even the idea that an adversary is your enemy, can be detrimental to the negotiation and resolution of smaller, everyday conflicts. This put Leo on the path to seeking out better ways to deal with conflict. Since then, he has let his experiences and interactions inform his interest in conflict management and resolution. Along the way he has earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and a master’s degree in Negotiation, Conflict Resolution, and Peacebuilding, both from California State University, Dominguez Hills; his academic interests include community activism, structural violence, leadership, and social capital. Leo has worked with community-based organizations and addressed professional organizations on topics such as conflict resolution, effective communication, and groupthink. He is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution and the International Association for Conflict Management. Leo blogs at conflictauthority.com and can be contacted there.
